Tamela Hedström is a singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur, whose creations in the tropical soul genre have earned her recognition in the Latin music industry. Her talent has led to two Latin Grammy nominations as a songwriter, and she was awarded the ACAM Musical Award in Costa Rica for her album, TAMELA.
She has shared the stage with legendary artists like Gilberto Santa Rosa and Calle 13. Tamela has performed at festivals in China, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and the United States, and her concerts have taken her on tours throughout Costa Rica and Central America. She has also been the opening act for artists such as Chayanne, Calle 13, Prince Royce, Sin Bandera, Rosana, Bosé, and Fonseca.
A multifaceted artist and prominent television personality, Tamela Hedström has hosted several popular programs in Costa Rica, including Estéreo, Quien sabe sabe, and Así vivimos los Ticos. She has also participated in Tu cara me suena and Swedish Idol. Her acting skills were showcased in the Costa Rican film Maikol Yordan 2.
In addition to her entertainment career, Tamela has been actively involved with various organizations and conferences. She is a proud ambassador for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Costa Rica, as well as a Goodwill Ambassador for the FAO in Costa Rica, a division of the United Nations.
Tamela's inspiring recovery journey after a serious car accident was also the subject of a TEDx Talk, where she openly shared the consequences of her injury and the challenges women face in the music industry.
While living in Mexico, Tamela was accepted into the TCSACM program (Studies in Composition and Songwriting with the Association of Mexican Composers), where she honed her skills as a composer and songwriter. She even collaborated with Noel Schajris to create the hit "Hoy solo estás tú."
She is currently releasing her autobiography, TAMELA, When Life Hits You Like a Bus! The book promises to be a gripping account of the accident that nearly cost her her life and the powerful journey of healing, transformation, and self-discovery that followed.
